Jim Calafiore broke into the comics scene in 1990 as one of comics most highly respected and acclaimed illustrators. Jim gained notoriety with Valiant’s X-O Manowar and Armorines. His worked has now spawned two decades and has graced such titles on titles such as Iron Man, the X-Men, Excalibur, Magnus Robot Fighter, Green Arrow, Aquaman, Batman, Fantastic Four and many, many others.
“I’d held off on a web site for quite some time, mostly due to the fact that my penciling schedule keeps me quite busy but also because I knew that when I did it, I wanted to do something different – something special with it,” said Calafiore. “Firstly, I wanted to have a good about of say in the design of the web site and I wanted it to be very personal – my communication with my fans, not unlike how I interact with them at shows and signings. I wanted to show off things I’d done as commissions and preview some of my own creator-owned work as well. But what I struggled to find time to do was learn the various nuances of working in .html and the internet in general. In that regard, I needed someone to work with me to make my vision a reality and help me build the site in such a way that it would work on various browsers and computers and monitors. Integrated Web Solutions had a long track record of working with artists in this regard and they were willing to work with me throughout the entire project.”
“Jim had a wonderful, clean design in mind when we first started talking about the site,” said Integrated Web Solutions Creative Director, John Schwarberg. “From my perspective, I felt it was fantastic in that the emphasis would be on the artwork, not the site design.” Work began quickly taking Calafiore’s Photoshop files and converting them into .html. IWS registered a domain name quickly and established a web site hosting account and the site was launched in a few short months. Included within the initial build out of the web site were places where Jim could sell his original artwork to art buyers, his appearance schedule, news, a portfolio of past work and an exclusive look at various pitches Jim had made to publishers featuring such characters as the Justice League of America, Hercules, Ghost Rider and Superman. Since the initial development, the site continues to grow with new artwork and news stories being added regularly.
