Mike Mayhew is a world-renowned illustrator who creates some of the most
exciting images in comics today. Mike specializes in photo-realism, and
intense rendering of dynamic subjects. His techniques range from digital
color over hand-drawn pencil art, to traditional painting. Mike began his
art career in 1992 were he penciled comic pages for DC Comics. He honed his
comic skills with Zorro for Topps Comics. In 2000, he became the artist on
Harris Comic's Vampirella, revolutionizing interior comic art with full
pencil rendering. During this period Mike's painting skills blossomed while
doing the title's painted covers. Mike took his cover skills to Marvel
Comics where he dazzled viewers with his depictions of Mystique, Elektra,
and She-Hulk. Mike has also produced work for film licensing on the
Fantastic Four and Superman Returns films. In 2008, Mike made a commitment
to storytelling, returning to interior artwork for a WWI Spawn story, X-Men
Origins: Jean Grey (his first fully painted comic), and SAVAGE (his first
creator owned title).
"There simply came a point in my career where I recognized a need to have my
own site, both to show off the work I've done and to sell my original
artwork as well," said Mike Mayhew. "And when that point came, I called up
Integrated Web Solutions, they had a reputation in the comics industry for
knowing the business and for working with artists like myself to make the
artists' vision a reality. Ultimately, I had ideas as to what I wanted
visually but getting those visual ideas to translate into the internet have
it workable in all browsers and such, that was something where I knew I
would need some help. Not only was Integrated Web Solutions willing to work
with me to do all that but they also brought a number of ideas to the table
initially (and even now for that matter) that really took things to an
entirely new level."
Working with some of Mike's design ideas and refining them was the first
step in building out the look and feel of the new web site. Creating a news
functionality that Mike could maintain easily going forward as well as
providing him with an ability to add new images to his galleries as he
produced new work were critical components to long-term success. Once the
site was completed, a domain name was registered and web site hosting was
established as well.
"IWS has been fantastic. Not only did they get me up and running but when my
deadlines have me strapped for time, I simply pitch updates to them and they
have been great at keeping the site maintained for me from time to time as
well. The site itself has really done great things in terms of my own
visibility to both fans, art buyers and publishers. A lot of artists spend a
lot of time trying to learn the ropes of the internet. I'd tell them to use
that time producing more art - just call the guys at IWS and let them do
what they do best, they are a great partner to have in your corner," said
Mike Mayhew.
